Lately, I have been interested in gauging which exact time of the day I feel able to produce the kind of output I am proud of. To be specific, I am curious to know whether I feel more creative, energetic or productive at certain times of the day. I once suspected that my energy takes a dive around late afternoon, and my wife confirmed it. Her confirmation was the catalyst for me to get off my ass and get to quantifying.
As serendipity would have it, I came across a great way to measure my predilections versus time of day with the use of a tool in a book I just read. Author Kim Werker provides the reader with a dot graph that compares the degree to which one feels creative on the y-axis to the time of day on the x-axis. She prefers that her readers write down their data in the book itself, but the copy I read was borrowed from the library, so I made my own electronic and printable version. And I would like to share it with you.
Here is what it looks like:
In case you have difficulty understanding how to use this graph just by looking at it, what you do is make a dot next to the number on the y-axis that corresponds to the degree to which you would rather be making stuff at the given time of day on the x-axis. Do this for a while, and you will end up with some information you can use to cultivate your creative output.
I made this graph using a spreadsheet tool call TreeSheets. I did not use Microsoft Excel because I know very little about Excel. I do not care about Excel. If I knew it, then I might care about it, but I find TreeSheets to suit my needs better, it is free and it is open-source. Click here to download it.
What do you think about this little tool thingy? Would you be able to make use of it? Then, you are in luck because I have made a copy in PDF format that you can print out and use! Email me with the sentence “I’d rather be making stuff” in the subject line, and I will email you back with a link for you to click and download the sheet.
Be sure to leave a reply below when you got the sheet. And let me know how it is working for you!
